Going to Mars and Burning the Ships

June 27th, 2012.

I’ve always said that space exploration will not happen if its solely based on scientific advancement.  History shows us that colonisation happen only when there is a financial or emotional purpose.  Here’s a fascinating idea called Mars One which hopes to send people to Mars on a one way trip and financing it all through a reality TV show.

Is this a flight of fancy? Perhaps.  How should Christians respond to this?  In previous centuries they have done so by getting ministers on to the First Fleet and following things up with a bunch of missionaries.  I wonder…

Cortez burns his ships and goes on to vanquish the Aztecs!

Have the guys not heard of “survivor bias”?

Plus I thought for maximum impact you were supposed to surprise the crew on the shore of the new and forbidding location :-)
